HAND JOB ACADEMY – “SHARK WEEK.”

These badass babes are straight outta Brooklyn and they’re not afraid of the music business. Hand Job Academy is a hip hop group that consist of three girls: Ash Wednesday, Clara Bizna$$, & Uncle Meg. They started in 2012 and now here they are in 2014 with their debut album, #IkeaMonkey. From the very start, these girls were bold. With songs like “Shark Week” & “Pu$$y Chicken”, you already know that these girls came into this business with a different mission.

I was getting lost in the internet like I always do when I came across their “Shark Week” video. I love sharks for starters and with a name like Hand Job Academy (HJA), how could you not be curious? I was no where near prepared for this video that I had clicked on. At first I was confused, then I was disgusted. Ultimately I couldn’t stop watching it and by the end of the video I decided that I loved it. What made this video so great is that these ladies were able to send a message without coming off as annoying feminists. The video was fun, it was artsy, it was amusing, it was everything that a music video should be! At the end of the day though, it still meant something. They took common themes such as dolls, wedding dresses, cooking, cleaning, and all the basic joys of a menstrual cycle to stress the fact that being a girl isn’t always glamourous.

The best part is that their art and humor doesn’t end here. All of their videos are visually appealing and their lyrics will make you like, literally, LOL. Being in front of the camera seems very easy for them and I can imagine that their live performances are a must see. However, don’t take these girls as a joke. I understand that their music comes with a laugh but bottom line, they’re serious about this. They’re not a parody group, they’re real world emcees. This is only the beginning for them and I can’t wait to see what their future holds.

Be sure to check out more of their music and videos.
